The “OOCL Germany” was visiting the Jade Weser Port in Wilhelmshaven

Basically, there’s nothing special about big ships running in at the port of Wilhelmshaven. But on the 16th October however it was an extraordinary event when the “OOCL Germany” fastened at the Eurogate Container Terminal. This container ship, which is currently the biggest one shipping the seas, convinces by its extraordinary intake capacity and is supposed to be used for worldwide shipping.

The sister ship in Wilhelmshaven

Worldwide shipping is a successful concept of the shipping company OOCL who has been visiting Wilhelmshaven already in summer with a sister ship of the “Germany”. At that time, more precisely in July, the “OOCL Hong Kong” landed at the Jade Weser Port. This freighter is 400 metres long and has 21,413 storing positions for standard containers available. It can be found on the record list of the world’s biggest ships, too. Both ships belong to the shipowning network “Ocean Alliance”. And both are used for worldwide shipping and are a part of the Far East North Europe shipping service. In this regard, since May ships have been loaded in the Jade Weser Port Wilhelmshaven weekly.

Efficiency of containers put to test

The reason for the OOCL Germany landing in Wilhelmshaven is that, with a water depth of 18 metres, the container terminal provides enough content there. Additionally, it convinces with the possibility to approach quickly coming from the North Sea. In total the currently biggest freight ship in the world provides space for 21.413 TEU which fit to 20’ standard containers. The Jade Weser Port is the only deep-water port in whole Germany that makes it possible for big container ships to always land and depart independent of tide and individual weather conditions.

Maiden voyage to Felixstowe

After landing at the major container port in Wilhelmshaven the OOCL Germany was welcomed by the Eurogate employees on site. They had built the number 21,413 with containers at the container yard next to the berth of the “Germany”. After just one night the world’s biggest container ship left Wilhelmshaven again.

Sooner or later the “OOCL Germany” will be employed in the Asia North Europe Loop 1. Thus by worldwide shipping it will carry goods of various origin and kind around the globe safely and reliably.
